The Ground is Saturated

... mud slide in paradise ...
Bonnie telephoned me – she was out for her morning walk, wearing her blue tooth, so I went for a virtual walk with her, seeing in my mind’s eye as she talked. I wanted to know what the slide looked like on Glen’s hill.

“How did you find out there was a the slide on the Glen’s hill”, Bonnie asked me. “Believe it or not, I didn’t know about it.”

“Didn’t you have dirt in your water from all of this rain? Is it OK now.”

Dave Wood joined Bonnie on her walk – so now, 3 of us on the virtual walk.

Dave explained that yesterday, Glen and he had been up the mountain cleaning the water system.

Then Glen flushed it out at his house.

The water still being dirty, he wanted to do it again.

Then they heard the CPR workers below yelling, “Land slide, land slide. Mud slide. Rocks.”

They scattered.

... checking out where the clean-up must begin ...
David continued. I think the ground was so saturated and then when we put the water on it, the land gave way.

We said, “Oh shoot.”

Glen was just glad no one got hurt. There were vehicles idling on the road.

Mother nature or man-made disaster?

The ground began to slide on the first path.

The CPR re-parked their vehicles after the slide. They were worried that the dirt might cross the road. It is been raining for 2 days. Everything is saturated. As well, there have been a couple of slides on the trans-Canada on the way into town.

... road is saturated and leaves tire tracks ...
Dave just finished mowing the area by Glen’s apple trees and Dave and Bonnie went to inspect how wet the ground is. There are deep car tracks going into that piece of ground. This morning, on my virtual walk, I heard about a deer that was eating Dave’s strawberries. Bonnie had just seen a raccoon sauntering along the propane tank, probably mad. She hasn’t been putting stuff in the compost. It sucks to be a raccoon this week. Today Dave was going to Bear Lake with Keith Parry to fix his water system, but the diver threw his hip out. Bonnie laughed and wanted to know how old the diver is. The Parry’s pump water from the lake to their house and need to know why their pump isn’t working. That was Dave’s plan for the day. Now he is going to help Glen.

Bonnie is on vacation today, so she is going home to get on boots, to grab a shovel and help as well.

The water in the lake is not so high this year. Last year at this time, we couldn’t walk along the beach but had to boat, they remembered.

Dave has cut the grass at the Ramp Camp. He is getting ready for a camp-out down here. Jennifer Henrie said that Bonnie could bring David to the mother’s and daughter’s party tonight. Jennifer will bring her son as well. The church is accommodating out here. David also said that Bonnie could join the men and bring David to the church Fathers and Sons Outing.

Nice to have so much flexibility.

  1. I was lucky to get a telephone call from Moiya and she told me about the unlucky mudslide. The good thing is the hill is clean and Glen and Janet can choose what they want to plant in that space without having to weed first.
